The First Swallow of Summer

Summer Arrives..

This winter has really got to me over here on the outskirts of London, UK.  Although we had little or no snow and only one frost that required cleaning the windscreen of the car, it was cold most of the time.

I do appreciate that many Bloggers in the US suffered severe weather, be it snow etc.  I do not think I could put up with it.

The weather has now suddenly changed dramatically.   It is forecast that this coming Easter weekend will be warmer and sunnier in the UK than it will be in most of the Mediterranean.

I have just returned from Brighton on the South Coast where although there was a stiff cold breeze there were signs of improvement.

Least of all was the sight of the first swallow heralding the oncoming summer.   As he flew up and down over a meadow my heart was full of joy.   The following day he was joined by four or five others.

Each year I await the arrival of the swallows and panic when they are late.  You see, from a very early age, my old mother, (God Rest her) used to encourage me to give three cheers of welcome on seeing the first one each year.

To this day, I still do so.................
